How to Warm-Up for a Ninja Warrior Competition

So you’re ready for your next ninja warrior competition. Many ninja warrior athletes will go into the competition with no issues.

Some go into the competition with no plan, others will prepare beforehand.


So how do you prepare for your next competition?

MENTAL PREP

Mental preparation is crucial. Meditation, yoga, stretching, and pre-course visualization can be helpful to lower stress levels and ease nerves.


PHYSICAL PREP

Physical prep will ultimately be the most important factor, because you need to prepare you body for the course challenges. This can be done by strength training, mastering obstacle technique, improving muscular endurance, balance, stability, coordination, and enhancing cardiovascular health.


ATTIRE

As an athlete, you will need to wear proper attire that will not only enhance your performance, but feels comfortable as well. This can include:

1) Shoes

Wear shoes that fit well and have a rubber bottom sole. This will enhance your grip onto obstacles and reduce the risk of slips. Obstacles can be made of plastic, wood, metal, or plexi-glass, so rubber will be the best choice for footwear outsoles.


2) Shirts

Regular, soft, and comfortable attire is suitable for competitions. Although, sports performance companies have created athletic wear that have helped athletes improve results. Many are made of polyester, spandex or a blend.


3) Pants/ Shorts

Lower body attire is just as important as the upper body. Ninja warrior courses will undoubtedly involve the lower body.


4) Socks

Standard socks are suitable for any athletic event, although moisture wicking materials may be more comfortable.


5) Hair

Your hair should be set so that it doesn’t impair your vision. You’ll be moving quickly in every direction. Time spent moving hair out of your view could result in longer course times.


WARMUPS

Be sure to warm up properly before your competition. Sure, you can just hop on the course, but proper preparation can help reduce the risk of injury.


WATER

It’s important to stay hydrated on the days leading up to competition, and on the day of as well.


NUTRITION

Eat well balanced, wholesome meals in order to supply your body with the nutrition it needs to function at its best.
