What is American Ninja Warrior?

Beginnings

American Ninja Warrior is a fitness and entertainment show featuring a different set of obstacle courses. The show is based on the Japanese reality TV show Sasuke.

The show is divided into city Qualifiers, Semi-finals, and a four part Final which is held is Las Vegas. In order to win the grand prize of $1,000,000, contestants must qualify for the finals and complete all the obstacles with the fastest time.

American Ninja Warrior is hosted by two of our favorite personalities in sports entertainment, Matt Iseman and Akbar Gbaja-Biamila.

In season 10, the show opted to grant the last contestant standing a consolatory $100,000 prize. This means that the contestant who goes the farthest on the course without failing would still be go home with prize money. To date, there has only been 2 winners of the main cash prize of $1,000,000.

The Evolution

The sport of ninja warrior has grown tremendously since the original airing of Sasuke in 1997 (directed by Ushio Higuchi). Obstacle challenges may have gotten tougher, but athletes continue to get stronger, faster, and more agile.

This past few years, obstacle/ ninja warrior gained an huge milestone, and will replace Equestrian in modern pentathlon at the Olympics.

In order to unify the sport of ninja warrior, the Ultimate Ninja Athlete Association (UNAA), Ninja World Cup USA, and FINA World Finals held the World Championships together in Orlando, Florida this year from July 26-30, 2023. The event featured 3 organizations, 5 Championship events, and athletes from all across the globe. This years massive event saw a record attendance of 800 Ninja athletes.
